Farm life in the wild is not something you’d expect, but deep in the wilderness of Hwange in Zimbabwe is Gobelo Farm, a 5-acre forage-worthy oasis. The unique space which began as an anti-poaching initiative, has evolved into a thriving agricultural hub

With close to 100 plants to discover and all the grunts and squeals of pigs, sheep, rabbits, ducks and even peafowl, there is lots to learn about nutrition, propagation, composting, natural fertilisers, seed dispersal and more.

We look beyond the plate at the healing qualities of indigenous botanicals and other edible or medicinal plants, from neem to papaya and many other intriguing botanicals.

Our first demonstration farm sits on 5-acres in the heart of Hwange, where we have demonstrated proof of concept for success with agriculture despite poor soils and close proximity to wildlife. Originally launched as an anti-poaching initiative, Gobelo Farm has grown into a living classroom and innovation hub for sustainable farming and value addition.

We cultivate a diverse mix of crops, from vegetables, herbs and fruit orchards to medicinal botanicals like neem. Alongside this, we raise farm animals - chickens, ducks, peacocks, pigs, rabbits and sheep - which play their part in soil health and integrated farm systems. The Farm is also a platform for product development.

From crops and botanicals, we are researching the potential of personal care, wellness and beverage products. From livestock, we are learning to create value, added foods, including sausages, ham and artisanal cheese from sheep’s milk.

By combining farming, research and processing, Gobelo Farm demonstrates how rural farmsteads can move beyond subsistence into profitable, market-driven enterprises. It is both a model for the Farmstead Co-ops and a launchpad for innovation - turning Zimbabwe’s natural abundance into products that can reach markets locally and abroad.

We take farm to table to another level by offering farm tours at Gobelo Farm. Visitors are able to walk through our grow spaces, taste our produce and see where our food journey begins. It’s a hands-on experience that connects you to the land, the people, and the purpose behind everything we grow.
