Gobelo Farm Tours for schools

When the classroom takes a detour to the wild…

You never quite know what will spark curiosity. Sometimes it’s a papaya tree. Other times, it’s the sound of a sheep mid-chew, or the surprising calm of a rabbit resting in your arms. That’s part of the charm of our Gobelo Farm Tours for schools. They’re not just informative, they come alive in laughter, in questions, in dusty shoes and wide-eyed wonder.

Gobelo Farm wasn’t planned in the usual sense. It grew out of conversations, campfire stories, shared meals and quiet observations. It grew as we listened, explored and slowly came to understand the healing power of indigenous plants and the potential that still lives in our soil.

Yes there was no blueprint and it took shape slowly but we had always had a desire to create something lasting for future stewards. Today, students who visit find themselves in a living classroom, walking through a five-acre patchwork of orchards, forage-worthy botanicals and vegetable beds. They feed pigs and chickens, hold rabbits, greet ducks, observe compost in action and get up close with the humble ingredients that fuel both our plates and our traditions.

But this is not just about farm life. It’s planting seeds.

Seeds of knowledge. Seeds of connection. Seeds of responsibility.

Our farm has become an unexpected oasis that continues to evolve. Today, it invites students to discover the healing properties of indigenous plants, to ask questions about where food comes from and to see nature not just as scenery to be admired, but as something much bigger. One that they are now part of.

From composting to seed dispersal... neem to sweet papaya... a Gobelo Farm Tour gently opens the door to learning that lasts long after the trip is over.

And for those who stay longer, there’s even more to explore.

Take the students from Nechilibi High School, who visited in 2024. Over a few days, they set up camp, learned how to make a fire, cooked over it and listened to stories under the stars. They explored Hwange National Park on game drives, asked questions about survival skills, took turns feeding farm animals and even paid a visit to the Hwange Power Station and the Painted Dog Conservation Centre.

Their days were full, but never rushed. Just enough structure to keep them engaged and just enough space to let the wild do what it does best: inspire.

So if you’re a teacher, a parent, or someone looking to organise a school outing with a difference...

Know that Gobelo Farm Tours are open to schools and we’re happy to guide you through the experience. From a few hours of hands-on learning to a full immersion in farm and wilderness life, we’ll make it meaningful.

And if you are one of our other guests and happen to be here during a school holiday, don’t be surprised if you hear the sound of laughter across the orchard or see a curious group crouched around a compost pile. Those aren’t just kids on a field trip.

They’re explorers in the making.
